#Electrostatics is made up of two words, Electro + statics
# Electro means charge and statics means at rest.
# A branch of physics which deals with the interaction of the charges at rest is known as ELECTROSTATIC.
2 - - - - ELECTRIC CHARGE
#Charge is the property associated with matter due to which it produces and experiences electrical and magnetic effects.
The study of electrical effects of charge at rest is called ELECTROSTATIC.
#A body may be positively charged depending upon deficiency or excess of electrons in the body.
#If a body is neutral then it has equal amount of positive and negative charge.

# The SI units of charge is "COULOMB'.

5 PROPERTIES OF CHARGE
A- charge is a scalar quantity.
B - - charge is always associated with mass. Charges can not exist without mass, though mass can exist without charge.
C--- Charge is transferable from one charged body to another body which may be charged or unchanged, it they are put in contact. The process of charge transfer is called CONDUCTION. Whole of the charge can not be transferred by conduction from one body to another except in case when a charge body is enclosed by a conducting body and connected to it.
D--- An accelerated charge always radiates energy in the form of electromagnetic waves.
E - - - If a charge is given to an isolated conductor then it always resided on the outer surface of the conductor but the charge density may or may not uniform.
F - - Charge can be detected and measured with the help of gold leaf electroscope' voltmeter, or ballistic Galvanometer'.
G - - Charge is invariant, charge on a body does not change. Whatever be it's speed, specific charge depends on speed as mass depends on speeds.
H--- A body can be charge by friction, induction or conduction.
I---- Quantization of charge.
Charge exists in discrete packets rather than in continuous amount, One such packet is names as one quanta, this is referred as charge quantization.
J---- Conservation of charge
The total charge within a isolated system is always constant or conserved.
